Dimensions and clasps
- Lug width: the distance between the lugs on the case in millimeters. It determines which straps fit.
- Length: usually different for women's and men's watches; adjustable on metal bracelets via links or the clasp.
- Clasps: tang buckle, deployant (folding) clasp or magnetic clasp, each with its own look and level of comfort.
The spring bar
Spring bars are small spring-loaded pins that hold the strap between the lugs. Quick-release spring bars allow the strap to be changed without tools. This makes interchangeable straps possible as accessories or gift sets and is an attractive selling point.
Straps as an assortment lever
One case combined with several straps creates variants without requiring a new case for each one. This lets you build a broad collection while concentrating the minimum order quantity on the case. Keep water resistance in mind: a leather strap limits use around water, even if the case could handle more.
