The phases at a glance
- Brief and concept. Clarify target group, items, price points and quantities.
- Design and material selection. Design set with detailed specifications.
- Sampling phase. Samples, adjustments and approval.
- Material sourcing and production. Series production based on the golden sample.
- Quality inspection and packaging. Inspection, labeling, packing.
- Transport and delivery. Shipping, customs clearance for imports, delivery to warehouse or stores.
What affects the schedule
- New development or adaptation. New tooling and several sample rounds take significantly more time.
- Material and finishing. Custom colors, stones or components that must be sourced separately extend the lead time.
- Packaging. Printed cases and displays are produced in parallel but can become a bottleneck.
- Mode of transport. Sea freight is cheaper but considerably slower than air freight.
- Holidays in production countries. Chinese New Year leads to breaks of several weeks at many facilities in Asia and should be built into the schedule.
- Decision-making processes. Lengthy approvals on the client side are a common and underestimated factor.
Plan backward
Plan backward from the sales launch: When do the goods need to be in the warehouse, when does production need to happen, and by when must the golden sample be approved? For the Christmas season or fixed promotion dates, a project therefore often starts as early as spring.
How we handle this at Aviano
From brief to delivery, a contract collection typically takes three to six months, depending on materials, quantity and complexity. For display concepts, too, we typically allow three to six months from the brief to the first stocked display space. We agree on the specific time frame for your project and consider development, the sampling phase and production together from the outset.
Frequently asked questions
Can it be done faster?
Yes, especially with adapted existing styles and your logo. That is the fastest route to your own collection.
How long do reorders take?
Usually less time than the initial order, because the design, samples and tooling already exist.
Does this also apply to watches?
Yes, for watch collections we also typically plan three to six months. In addition, movements and components must be available in time, and watches with lithium coin cells are subject to dangerous goods regulations when shipped by air.
Where are the goods delivered?
To your central warehouse or directly to agreed stores.
